Between Snowmageddon and Christmas, today is my first day in the office since December 12. Nothing much has changed. Not many people here either. I think most of my co-workers are off until January 5.

The good news is that I made excellent progress on my CBT class during Snowmageddon and feel good about meeting my schedule. That is, if I can get the SMEs to answer my emails and voice mail messages.

We have about a foot of snow at my apartment building and chains required to drive anywhere. The airport is jammed as almost all flights are being canceled, as none of the air carriers will bring a plane into Portland because they’re afraid they won’t be able to get out. Offices shut down, thankfully schools out for the holiday.

Everyone has cabin fever.

And I haven’t started my Christmas shopping.

all weather, all the time

The Deep Freeze of 2008 continues. We’re only up to 22 deg. today. Except for the stations that show football games, all the local stations are doing round-the-clock weather reporting. Snow, ice, reporters, on the overpasses: it’s the big story. I’m finding myself watching movies on cable on-demand that I would never watch regularly but am rather enjoying. Just finished with National Treasure 2 with Nicolas Cage. Great cast, funny bad script, perfect no-brainer of a movie.

It’s snowing hard, temps are dropping like a stone, and the weather people are warning of ice and the electric company is warning of power outages. This isn’t my idea of Christmas fun. I haven’t even started Christmas shopping yet (it’s not the last minute until noon Christmas Eve).

It’s snowing again! Big, fat snowflakes making for a real winter wonderland.

As I am living up to my name as the homescribe, I am indeed working from home all week and so am not out on the roads being slid into by other vehicles trying to drive on ice.

I would feel more comfortable, though, if I had completed my Christmas shopping. Maybe this afternoon, as another major storm is due to blow in tomorrow and may bring up to 6″ of snow and the temperatures will be back in the teens and twenties and I suspect that driving conditions will not be good. The city is working as hard as possible, but this is a very unusual weather event for us here.

All my meetings today got canceled at the last minute. More time to write! I view canceled meetings as a definite productivity boost.
